Clean lines are a minimalist’s dream, but what’s trending for maximalists? Rachel Brown, founder and principal designer at RB Interiors, has her eye on a concept she’s seen popping up since last year’s Art Basel in Miami: soft and sculptural furniture.

“After years of living with sharp corners and rooms that felt more like art galleries than actual homes, we’re all ready to soften things up,” she says. “Curvy, sink-in sofas everywhere.”

There’s a lot to love about this move toward sinuous curves. Brown says there’s warmth, ease, and a “come sit down energy” that still feels polished and somewhat formal. If you’re not ready to dive into this modern moment, consider a smaller investment to test out the trend.

“Start small with a rounded chair, a sculptural ottoman, or even a softly shaped headboard,” she says. “These pieces actually shine in traditional and transitional homes too, because they soften all that structure and keep a space feeling layered, livable, and not overly ‘done.’”
