You Can Live in Walt Disney’s Storybook Mansion—for $40,000 a Month
Disney lived in the Los Angeles home for 18 years.
While it’s impossible to live inside Disneyland, we just found the next best thing for mega Disney fans. Walt Disney’s Storybook Mansion in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles is now available to rent for a cool $40,000 a month. Disney lived in the home from 1932 to 1950 with his wife and two daughters.
The four-bedroom, five-bathroom residence was built by Disney and sits atop a gated drive (that has parking for 10 cars!). Designed by Frank Crowhurst, it’s a mix of different styles—French Provincial, French Country Tudor, and Neo Gothic. You can really tell that Disney got a lot of inspiration for iconic films and characters like Snow White, Mary Poppins, and Winnie the Pooh while living in this estate. It’s looks like a place that’s straight out of a fairy tale.
“This property was chosen by Walt Disney as the place to raise his family, and also coincided with a transition of Disney Studios from fledgling enterprise toward entertainment giant,” says listing agent Chase Campen of Compass. “It sits on an acre of land with incredible outdoor space and city views. Its historical pedigree only adds to the magical mystique.”
When you first walk inside you’ll see a two-story living room with vaulted wood-beamed ceilings, wood paneled walls, a brick fireplace, and original leaded windows with views of the backyard and even downtown Los Angeles. There’s also a beautiful dining room, a huge eat-in kitchen, and powder room. And the first floor also features a home theater, where Disney watched dailies of his productions—an amazing piece of history for any Disney geek or film buff.
Upstairs, there’s a primary suite with all the amenities: city views, plenty of closet space, and a luxurious bathroom. The second floor also contains two guest bedrooms, a family room, and a former sleeping porch (which can be an office or gym space).
Outside is even more spectacular with a pool, a trellis-covered dining area, and plenty of green space to roam around. Plus, the original playhouse of Disney’s daughters is still located on the grounds.
The home’s current owner Timur Bekmambetov, a Kazakhstan-born film director, bought the home in 2011 and has carefully preserved and restored it ever since. See the listing here.
