Rethink your vision for your altar. According to Keith Phillips of Classic Photographers, many couples are moving past the traditional arch setup and tapping into a more creative vein, especially in the case of outdoor weddings. “Backdrops involving florals and greenery point to a versatile trend that isn’t going out of style, and mixing it up with a circle arch creates the perfect frame for photos,” he says.
Warm Palette
"Our goal was to create a dreamy desert tablescape set in Joshua Tree, California. Carla from Idlewild Floral had the most amazing peachy-colored sweet peas and she mixed fluffy-textured real flowers with dried flowers for this unique centerpiece,” explains Jaime Kostechko of Wild Heart Events. To bring in a vintage vibe, she and her team hand-made the silverware pouches and coasters. The unique brass moons and ceramic dishes perfectly housed the candles and they played off of the rich neutral palette of the high desert with the glassware, pairing bright amber vintage wine glasses with sienna amber luster glassware.
Unconventional Dessert
"Wood slabs make great accents for dessert tables. Use them to prop up cake stands or place desserts directly onto the slab. Greenery is also a great accent," says Euri Wong of Bloominous. And speaking of dessert, opt out of the classic cake and go for something out-of-the-box like doughnuts, homemade pie, or macaroons.
Seating Chart Surprise
Another out-of-the-box idea? This seating chart that consists of different vases, pots, even crystals with the guests’ names written on them. It adds texture and amps up the creative factor on your wedding décor.

“Go for a woodsy look with lots of moss and natural wood textures. To keep it from looking too rustic, add in a pop of bright and bold color," suggest Wong.
Earthy Elegance
A simple white cake decked out in a fun pattern with a lot of florals dripping down is a cool way to add a more outdoorsy, natural vibe to your classic piece of confection. We are especially fond of the bright pops of yellow.
Something Old
When sourcing furniture pieces for your boho celebration, consider going vintage. “Scour your local flea markets or secondhand stores to snag a diamond in the rough. You can elevate the piece by repainting it a hue to match your wedding colors. For example, this antique side table was upcycled with a fresh coat of blue paint and organic greenery tucked in the drawers. It is a great place to host your guest book table or to hold escort cards,” says Amy Abbott of Amy Abbott Events.
Eclectic, Elevated
“Boho is very often synonymous with budget-friendly. Mix and match assorted vases and glassware within an unconventional color palette. Fill your flea-market finds with smaller-scale DIY wildflower arrangements—flowers and grasses that can be gathered by hand, or picked up at the local farmers’ market,” suggests Sammi Shea, wedding planner at Chalet View Lodge.
Scene-Stealing Tabletop
“Work with your florist to create a boho vibe by using light hues and a variety of vintage gold luminaries and votives. Place them on a bed of greenery on macramé to create a carefree wedding tablescape. The result is a touch of elegance that still pays homage to the bohemian theme that everyone craves,” adds Abbott.
Less Is More
“Nothing says laid-back bohemian more than forgoing fresh linens for a bare wood table. Go one step further and spruce it up with a simple natural table runner. Lay fresh eucalyptus with some fillers and roses along the center of your table and accent with votive candles for a stylish centerpiece,” says Joan Wyndrum of Blooms by the Box.
With a Flourish
“Consider departing from the typical colorful boho vibe with a limited, moody palette and pair it with calligraphy script that is less formal but equally expressive. You could liven things up with a wildflower illustration, or shimmer inks,” advices Kristy Rice of Momental Designs.
Sparkling Conversation Piece
“String lights are a staple at any wedding, but adding a chandelier to your outdoor reception can instantly elevate your event from perfectly boho to downright ethereal. The fixture is totally unexpected, and it will add a little something extra to your photos as a romantic décor element,” Phillips suggests.
