Amazon Just Got Rid of a Popular Prime Perk
‘Try Before You Buy’ is over, and the retailer says AI is to blame.

We regret to inform you that Amazon has eliminated one offering from the long list of Prime perks. As of January 31, 2025, you can no longer “Try Before You Buy” select clothing, shoes, and accessories.
Formerly known as Prime Wardrobe, the Try Before You Buy program allowed members to order up to six items and try them out for a week. After the trial period, you could keep anything you loved and return the rest for free. It was first announced in 2017 and officially launched in 2018, as a response to other similar services like Stitch Fix.
In a statement shared with the Associated Press and several other outlets, an Amazon spokesperson shared the thought process behind this move.
“Given the combination of Try Before You Buy only scaling to a limited number of items and customers increasingly using our new AI-powered features like virtual try-on, personalized size recommendations, review highlights, and improved size charts to make sure they find the right fit, we’re phasing out the Try Before You Buy option,” the spokesperson said.
Along with AI-related innovations, some suspect that the risks outweigh the benefits of continuing the program.
“Too many people were probably trying and using, then returning,” shared one Reddit user. “In other words, renting from Amazon with no rental fee.”
“It seems like a logistical nightmare,” wrote another. “I never used it. I’d just buy the thing outright and return it if it didn’t work out.”
At the time of publishing, information about the program was featured in the Help & Customer Service section on Amazon. However, the toggle button that was once available for eligible products has been removed from the site.
