It’s time to put roasted squash and root veggies, pomegranate seeds, and more in your salads.

Hog Island Autumn Chicory Salad

Thomas J. Story

Even though it’s hard to say goodbye to the fresh and abundant tomatoes, summer squash, corn, and stone fruit at the farmers market as summer comes to an end, we can’t say we’re mad at what’s taking their place. Winter squash; root vegetables; earthy mushrooms; hearty Brussels sprouts and other greens; crisp apples, pears, and persimmons; and sweet figs.

Fall produce is ready for its moment in the spotlight. And that means it’s time for some hearty fall salads. We’re sharing our favorite fresh, bold, and textured recipes that will bridge the gap between summer and autumn. Think Fig, Hazelnut, and Goat Cheese Salad; Autumn Chicory Salad; Roasted Mushroom Salad with Hazelnuts; and Red Pear Salad with Lemon Parmesan Dressing.
