The Star Hotel

Opening in 1910 as The Star Hotel Basque boardinghouse, thanks to the vision of Pete Jauregui, The Star Hotel served as a second home for Basque sheepherders working in northern Nevada. These boardinghouses focused on community, with communal activities such as dining, Basque games, and socializing in the native language. Here, all meals were served family-style, including staples like lamb, cabbage soup, and flan.

As one of Nevada’s oldest traditional Basque boardinghouses, The Star remains a popular gathering spot, serving family-style entrées, including garlic-loaded steaks and lamb chops, often paired with drinks like the state’s official cocktail, the Picon Punch. Today, The Star remains a place for community, welcoming new and old friends, and upholding over 100 years of Basque hospitality.
