Hotel Colorado
Nestled in the Rocky Mountains alongside the Colorado River in Glenwood Springs, the iconic Hotel Colorado first opened its doors in 1893. Silver baron Walter Devereux modeled his “Grand Dame” after an Italian villa to welcome the wealthy and elite who traveled from around the globe to take in the mineral waters of the hot springs for which the city was named. The hotel has been used as a temporary White House, as a place of healing for the US Navy during WWII and as a community focal point from its inception. Its 130th anniversary celebration is in June.
