Location: Pacific City, Oregon

Alexandra Pallas is a born-and-raised Oregonian photographer and avid outdoor adventurer. When she’s not at her day job as the senior brand manager for the local Pelican Brewing Company, she can be found behind the camera, chasing swell along the Oregon Coast, or indulging in Pacific Northwest powder days alongside her dog, Po. Here, she shares her tips for this magical corner of the Oregon Coast.

STAY

Headlands Coastal Lodge & Spa is an unforgettable experience, complete with oceanfront views, inviting rooms, and the brisk ocean breeze. Falling asleep at the water’s edge brings a sense of comfort and contentment that awakens an appreciation for the surrounding nature. I am always quick to recommend a stay at the Inn at Cape Kiwanda in the heart of town. It offers spacious rooms, plus access to a miniature golf course, pool, and bicycles for the family.

Whether coming in from a day of surfing or meeting up with friends, there’s no better place than Pelican Brewing Company. My husband and I had our very first date there. It’s the only beachfront brewpub in Oregon. I have been coming into Stimulus Coffee + Bakery for years and enjoying great coffee, delicious pastries, and friendly staff. The baristas make my day!

When I first moved to Pacific City, I knew I wanted to get into the ocean. I started my surf journey with lessons at Moment Surf Company and instantly became hooked. Be sure to take a sunset photo walk at Cape Kiwanda in the evening. Walking around the Cape and up the sand dune allows me to practice capturing the coastal scenes and wildlife while enjoying the golden hour glow. South of Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area but still in Pacific City is Bob Straub State Park. This stretch of beach never gets too hectic since it’s not near any of the amenities in town. Tidepooling at low tide is always a new adventure! At the base of Cape Kiwanda, there’s an incredible marine garden with low-tidepooling for anemones, starfish, crabs, and countless other creatures.
