Animals Make an Unexpected Appearance at This Celebrity-Favorite Ranch
Photographer Gray Malin captured the gorgeous grounds in Montecito—with a little help from horses, zebras, alpacas, and more.

Tucked away in Montecito, San Ysidro Ranch is a getaway for Angelenos and travelers all over the world. The 550-acre property has welcomed visitors since 1893, and it’s known as a hideaway full of lush gardens and breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and Santa Ynez Mountains. Recently, renowned photographer Gray Malin spent some time there with vintage cars, horses, alpacas, a longhorn, camels, and a zebra for a wildly wonderful shoot.
If the name sounds familiar, it’s probably because of San Ysidro’s celebrity guest list. Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger and Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin were married there, and John and Jackie Kennedy honeymooned in one of the cottages.

This also isn’t the first time Malin has taken photos of animals. In the past, he’s captured adorable pups checking into the Parker Palm Springs, hopping on an Aspen chairlift, dining at Ladurée in Paris, and lounging poolside in Montecito. He’s also photographed llamas, elephants, giraffes, and camels — just to name a few.
