You Can Stay in the House from ‘Up’ (And Yes, It Floats in the Air)

Airbnb has been behind some buzzworthy stays—remember the Barbie Dreamhouse from last summer? Or the Sanderson Sisters’ house from Hocus Pocus? The vacation rental company has brought incredible pop culture moments to life throughout the years, and now it’s expanding its offerings through Icons, a new category of experiences.

The Icons category “lets you step into worlds you’ve only ever dreamed of.” The company unveiled 11 experiences, with more launching throughout the year. And the best part? Many of the stays cost $0 per guest!

“Icons take you inside worlds that only existed in your imagination—until now,” said Brian Chesky, Airbnb co-founder and CEO, in a press release. “As life becomes increasingly digital, we’re focused on bringing more magic into the real world. With Icons, we’ve created the most extraordinary experiences on Earth.”

A noteworthy Icon stay is right here in the West: a recreation of the house from the classic Pixar film, Up, which is located in Abiquiu, New Mexico. We got to see the home up close and the attention to detail is astounding—it’s like being transported into the film. The furniture, decor, mementos, and even mail looks exactly like it does in the movie (yes, Ellie’s adventure book is included). And the stay is hosted by none other than Carl Fredricksen himself.

But that’s not all—the craziest thing about the Up Airbnb experience is that like the film, the IRL house floats! It’s topped with 8,000 balloons and can be suspended in the air with help from a giant crane.

“I think it taps into what people are really wanting right now, because we know that people want to travel. They want to travel in groups. They want to see new places and new things, and they don’t want to just go stay in like a stale hotel room and do just the normal tourist-y things. They want unique experiences. And so this is kind of leaning into this, that Airbnb is more than just a stay,” says Tara Bunch, Airbnb’s Global Head of Operations.

Ferrari Museum

Car buffs will get to spend the night at the Ferrari Museum in Maranello, Italy, and sleep on a bed that features the same leather as Ferrari seats. You’ll also get to drive a lap with Scuderia ambassador driver Marc Gené, and get VIP access to Emilia-Romagna’s premier race.

X-Men ’97 Mansion

Located in Westchester, New York, the X-Mansion feels like you’re transported right into a comic book.

VIP Experience with Kevin Hart

Kevin Hart will host you at his members-only Coramino Live Lounge, where you’ll enjoy a drink with Kevin and his friends and watch live stand-up.

Musée d’Orsay

You’ll get to sleep in the Paris art museum’s clock room, which is now a gorgeous bedroom created by Mathieu Lehanneur, who designed the Paris 2024 Games Torch and Cauldron. But that’s not the most spectacular part about this experience—guests will have the opportunity to view the Opening Ceremony of this year’s Olympic Games from the terrace.

A Living Room Session with Doja Cat

You and 14 of your friends will be treated to an intimate concert by Doja Cat.

Guests can stay at the actual Minneapolis, Minnesota, home that was featured in Prince’s film, Purple Rain. Tour the home and stay in The Kid’s bedroom. It’s hosted by Prince’s band members, Wendy and Lisa.

Game with Khaby Lame

Head to Milan, Italy, for a gaming experience with TikTok star Khaby Lame. You’ll stay in a gaming loft designed by Khaby.

Go on Tour with Feid

Reggaeton superstar Feid is taking two guests on the road with him. You’ll get to stay in the tricked-out tour bus, catch rehearsals, and get backstage access to the concerts.

This stay is a must for Bollywood fans. You’ll get the chance to stay at Janhvi Kapoor’s family home in Chennai, India. Janhvi will take you on a private tour of the estate and also share her beauty secrets. You’ll also enjoy a dinner of her favorite South Indian dishes and partake in a morning yoga session with breakfast.

Inside Out 2 Headquarters

Inside Out 2 comes out on June 14, and to celebrate that, lucky guests will get to stay at Headquarters, the emotions control center in the film.

To book a stay, you can request through the Airbnb app when the booking window is live. You’ll fill out an application and guests selected will receive a digital “golden ticket.” There will be more than 4,000 tickets available this year, so it’s your chance to see if you’re lucky!
