National Park Lifetime Pass: Last Chance to Snag $10 Pass

Travelers looking to take advantage of the National Park Service $10 senior lifetime pass only have a few more days left to do so, as the price of the pass will go up to $80 staring on August 28, 2017.

The pass gives travelers age 62 and older free entrance for themselves and up to three adults at thousands of locations managed by the National Park Service, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the U.S. Forest Service, the Bureau of Land Management, the Bureau of Reclamation, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Now, for the first time since the fee was enacted in 1994, the pass will hike up eight times its original price, which is why the National Park Service has been seeing a boom in demand for those looking to grab the passes while they can.

The National Park Service has received more than 250,000 request for this year, which is quite a boost in comparison to their previous record of 33,000 request, according to The Washington Post.

The high demand has left some locations running out of passes, which is why the park service will be accepting photo IDs along with an email confirmation of a purchased pass as a form of entry where physical passes are currently unavailable.

Congress first created the pass as a free option back in 1972, later converting it into a lifetime pass and raising its fee last year as a part of the National Park Service’s Centennial.

Buyers also have the option to purchase annual senior passes for $20, which can be purchased four years in a row to convert them into a lifetime pass.

Passes can either be bought at a federal recreation site where entrance or standard amenity fees are charged, through mail, or online.
