Land+Shelter Architecture Studio

2025 marks 20 years of Land+Shelter architecture studio. The L+S studio offers architecture, interior design, and planning services. Land+Shelter began in a repurposed chainsaw repair shop, which we owned, developed, and shared with practicing painters, potters, and other artists. Aptly named “SAW” (Studio for Arts and Works), the space was alive with an authentic artist studio vibe. Our studio atmosphere has informed the DNA of our practice since those fun and messy early years. Collaborations and relationships with artists reverberate today. 

We think of the architecture studio as a community, and a microcosm of our broader community. We strive to reflect a creative ethos in our work. We built off our early days of hosting art openings and getting to know anyone and everyone as we developed a broader portfolio. We have grown a vibrant institutional/public portfolio alongside our mainstay stream of private, custom residential work. Our “on-the-boards” work includes Aspen area private residences, a public pool, and two early childcare centers —for Aspen and Snowmass Village—where early childcare is an urgent need. L+S safeguards our environment by making work that is both conceptually rich and sustainable; our work remains true to these goals today.

We see every “constraint” as an opportunity to find a beautiful architectural response. Building beautiful, sustainable spaces is the fun of our practice.
