Pinterest rarely leads us astray, but they’ve presented perhaps their most unexpected trend forecast yet: the return of the doily. As we move toward all things maximalized and personalized, it’s easy to understand why lace could pop up on runways and even on your dining room table. But don’t think one-dimensionally about doilies—it’s all about lace-inspired home goods.

“Doilies on armchairs or under a lamp? Hard no,” says Fran Berger, a renowned Los Angeles-based restauranteur. “What I am noticing is something far more sophisticated: doily-inspired designs that translate those intricate, handcrafted patterns into unexpected materials and applications.”

A few of Fran’s doily-esque recs include pierced ceramics and dinnerware with eyelet details, delicate edging on luxury linens, and lace motifs rendered in metal, resin, or even concrete. The Anthropologie Eyelet Dessert Plates featured in the Pinterest report have already sold out, but Fran spotted a similar, more luxe style from Anna Weatherly. And if you’re ready to scour online vintage marketplaces or visit local antique shops, she says to keep an eye out for vintage lattice framed dinnerware from Oscar de la Renta.

“Both styles have distinctive yet subtle doily-inspired detailing that are conversation starters, not the entire conversation,” she says. “It’s the essence of grandma’s craft room, but elevated and reimagined for modern spaces. These pieces add texture and visual interest without feeling precious or dated.”

Before you start styling, take note of Fran’s biggest piece of advice: Keep it simple. “I’d recommend one or two statement pieces rather than layering the look throughout,” she says.
