A 90s kitchen and dining spaces get a sleek upgrade in this Redondo Beach, CA home.
This renovation was completed during the COVID-19 upswing in Redondo Beach, CA. While the owner-architect Niharika Hablani experienced some setbacks, the project was completed on time, on budget, and more importantly, COVID-free.
Kitchen Before: Dated and Cramped
Between the floor-to-ceiling cabinets and wall separating the dining room, this medium-sized kitchen appears small, cramped, and dark.
Kitchen After: Ahhhh
Hablani opened up the wall that separated the dining area from the kitchen, making the entire space feel airier, brighter, and 100x more inviting.

Cabinets Before: Heavy and Dark
Because the ceilings sit on the lower side in this part of the kitchen, the upper wood cabinets and paneled ceiling together make the room feel like it’s closing in on itself.
Cabinets After: Light and Airy
The combination of white upper cabinets and black lower cabinets gives the illusion of more space, without losing storage. Hablani also updated the tiled countertops and backsplash with an elegant marble.
Open Shelving Opens up the Room
Along with sleek upper cabinets, Hablani created open shelving nooks for additional storage without the bulk and to showcase personal style with glassware, cookbooks, and other decorative items.
