Western farmers are always innovating. Hydroponics, vertical farms, the purple tomato—you name it, they’ve green-thumbed it. They even innovate accidentally, like by raising a forest of poplars perfect for hammock hanging.
Check it out: When farmer Rob Miller of Mt. Jefferson Farms in Salem, OR planted a field of poplars 15 years ago for research into native habitat restoration, he had no clue that the little saplings, perfectly spaced at 14 feet apart would grow into the most hammock-worthy rest spot ever found.
We stumbled on it during a recent scouting trip through Oregon farm land. Stay up to the minute with photos like these by following us on Instagram, @Sunsetmag.
