Napa Is Burning––Here’s How to Help Victims of California’s Wildfires

California has already been ravaged by several fires this season—some of the worst in history. These fires have destroyed homes, businesses, and lives, and is even more devastating due to COVID-19.

Currently, the Glass Fire, which ignited on Sunday in Napa County, has destroyed over 42,560 acres and is at 0% containment, according to Cal Fire. Evacuation orders are currently in effect for Napa County, forcing thousands to flee their homes and businesses. Several businesses including wineries, shops, and restaurants have been completely destroyed by the fires. Local gem Meadowood Resort, which housed a three-Michelin-star restaurant, was not spared by the fires, with hundreds sharing the sad news across social media.

These fires are coming at the worst possible time, with news of a third wave of COVID-19 and the start of flu season. If you can, please consider donating to these organizations that are supporting displaced families, animals, and first responders.

California Wildfire Relief Fund: Crowdfunding through Disaster Recovery Network and GlobalGiving. All donations to this fund support relief and recovery efforts for Californians affected by the 2020 wildfires. Initially, the fund will help first responders meet survivors’ immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, medicine, and shelter. The fund will transition to support longer-term recovery efforts run by local, vetted organizations in the region.

California Fire Foundation: The California Fire Foundation’s Supplying Aid to Victims of Emergency (SAVE) program brings immediate, short-term relief to victims of fire and other natural disasters throughout California.

California Community Foundation’s Wildlife Relief Fund: The Wildfire Relief Fund supports intermediate and long-term recovery efforts for major California wildfires. Please note that the Wildfire Relief Fund cannot accept donations of food, clothing, or other supplies.

Airbnb Emergency Housing: Since 2012, Airbnb Open Homes has connected people impacted by disasters with hosts who are offering a temporary free place to stay.

East Bay SPCA: East Bay SPCA has offered to board dogs and cats evacuated from the Glass Fire and is in need of donations to go toward their immediate care.
