This herd works not at a farm but in Silicon Valley at a public transit agency. They got the job when the company learned that their grounds were the home to endangered burrowing owls. Since using a lawn mower would have destroyed the owls’ habitat, they found a shepherd to bring in sheep to keep the grass maintained.
It’s a win-win situation: The shepherd has land within the city to feed his sheep, the company keeps the grass maintained, and it’s an all-around green way of thinking.
And, yes, there are shepherds in Silicon Valley.
