You Can Get Super-cheap Flights to Europe This Summer If You Book on United

This summer, you can fly to Sweden for $364 round-trip, or to Paris for $433. To take advantage of this deal, however, you’ll need to book a ticket with United Airlines.

Scott Keyes, the founder of Scott’s Cheap Flights, is calling these “apology fares” — citing the forcible removal of passenger David Dao from a flight (which was the first in a series of negative incidents for the airline).

“Since the incident on United 3411, there’s been a noticeable drop in United’s fares,” Keyes told Travel + Leisure.

In the last 10 days alone, Keyes has found round-trip flights to Trinidad and Tobago for as little as $274 (typically $550); flights to Paris for $433 (typically $800); and round-trip fares to Mexico City for less than $200 (typically $500).

“I’m not privy to United’s internal numbers,” Keyes joked, “but whatever drop in bookings they were seeing must have scared theme enough to slash prices.”

The latest evidence is United’s late-summer sale on flights to Sweden. Boston-based travelers can fly for $364 round-trip, while New Yorkers can visit this Scandinavian country for $381. Flight from the Californian cities San Francisco, San Jose, and Los Angeles are all less than $400.

And more good news: You can no longer be bumped from a flight with United if you’ve already boarded the plane.
