Prentiss + Balance + Wickline Architects

Spanning four decades, our work has been inspired by the site and shaped by a spirit of collaboration, in pursuit of design with enduring impact. PBW has studios in three unique environments: the foothills of the Cascade Mountains, the shoreline of the San Juan Islands, and in the city of Seattle. We’re invested in each of these distinct communities, while bringing our Pacific Northwest influence to diverse and challenging sites across the country. We draw deeply from our collective talent to create architecture rooted in its place and clear in its function. We work with intention: collaborating closely with our clients and responding to the environment, letting sustainability be a driving force and preserving it whenever possible.

PBW creates custom tailored architecture across a variety of scales: unlocking each project’s potential with creative thinking alongside refined analytical tools. We’ve been fortunate to design projects inspired by their extraordinary settings, from rural sites with national park-level beauty to vibrant urban neighborhoods. We begin every project with an intensive site evaluation, striving to draw inspiration and embrace constraints to enrich our designs.

PBW approaches each project as a bespoke experience: our process is a constant dialogue with our clients about how they live and aspire to live. Our designs are playful and experimental with a dose of pragmatism; not driven by preconceived notions or stylistic dogmas. PBW’s work elevates the everyday and leaves a lasting imprint of beauty, connection, and meaning.
