Want S’more Summer? Book a Hipcamp Campsite to Make It Extra Sweet
Hipcamp “wanted to provide a unique treat to elevate campers’ next outdoor experience.”
Looking for ways to make summer last a little bit longer? How about a last-minute Labor Day weekend camping trip?
Bonus points: If you book a site through Hipcamp, your excursion could be extra sweet.
Hipcamp, which provides outdoor accommodations across the West and beyond, is offering a gourmet s’mores kit starting Tuesday to the first 100 people who reserve an outdoor experience in the United States for sometime this month. That means you could be pitching your tent at the base of Colorado’s Mount Blanca, or glamping on a family-run Washington farm, before ending the night with a limited-edition treat.
Outdoor chef Kena Peay created the kit by combining bittersweet chocolate squares, raspberry-infused marshmallows and seeded raspberry jam, not to mention gourmet vanilla wafers and both chocolate and honey graham crackers. Peay chose each ingredient based on Hipcamp’s recent nationwide survey asking 1,500 Americans how they would describe the taste of summer 2021. The top three answers? Fruity, boring and bitter.
(We also appreciated such individual responses as “blah,” “bland,” and “na.”)
“We wanted to provide a unique treat to elevate campers’ next outdoor experience,” Jessie Lucci, Hipcamp’s U.S. general manager, said in a press release. “There’s just no better treat than s’mores, and no better partner than Kena to bring a special twist to America’s favorite camping treat. Kena’s delicious concept reflects both our collective experience of summer and provides an optimistic twist: there’s still time left to get outside, enjoy the season, and build some special memories with your friends and family. ”
You can also purchase the $30 kit through Hipcamp’s Supply Shop for an at-home s’mores experience, like sleepaway camp in your own backyard.
More than half of the respondents to Hipcamp’s survey declared s’mores the “best camping treat,” followed by hot dogs and campfire-cooked eggs and bacon. While we do have a soft spot for charred bratwurst on the beach, there is nothing like gourmet s’mores after a long day of hiking (though you may have already been eating your own homemade s’mores trail mix, if that’s your kind of thing).
Here’s something most people could agree on: More than three-quarters of respondents to Hipcamp’s survey said they wanted two more weeks of summer. Can’t really argue with that?
