These single-serving treats are a high-class dessert served in a dressed-down container. Classic tiramisu might be a difficult kitchen endeavor, but this simplified version is quick and hassle-free. The treats are creamy, powerful, sweet, and loaded with everyone’s favorite hazelnut-chocolate spread. Make them a day in advance and expect your party, Valentine’s Day, or picnic guests to ask for seconds.
Begin with the base of the egg and Nutella mixture. Combine egg yolks, sugar, and salt in a double boiler over low heat and beat with a hand mixer until thickened. After four minutes, the mixture should hold its shape for several seconds when the beaters are lifted from the bowl. Warm up Nutella in a microwave-safe bowl for 30 seconds in 15-second increments and set aside until the whipped cream step.
Next, make the mascarpone cream layer. Combine room temperature mascarpone cheese and powdered sugar until smooth.
Finish the layers by adding whipped cream. Fold two-thirds into the mascarpone mixture and the rest into the egg mixture along with the warmed Nutella.
If you can’t find 1/5-liter Weck jars, any tall 1-cup canning jars will do. Prepare a layering set up with your two mixtures, ladyfingers, and a bowl of espresso or brewed coffee with optional hazelnut liqueur. Start with a ½-in. layer of the Nutella mixture in each jar. Submerge two ladyfingers in the espresso bowl and overlap them on top of the Nutella mixture. Add a ½-in. layer of the mascarpone cream mixture. Repeat Nutella, soaked ladyfingers, and mascarpone layering until the jars are full, ending with the mascarpone. You’ll find that this recipe fills enough jars to delight six people. Chill the tiramisu covered with wrap at least 6 hours. Just before serving, use a small sieve or strainer to evenly sprinkle the tops with unsweetened cocoa powder.
