La Baleine Cafe

La Baleine Cafe, located in Homer, Alaska, is a community hub serving dishes made with locally sourced, organic Alaska ingredients and techniques that exemplify a unique and diverse culinary tradition. Chef/Owner Mandy Dixon comes from a lineage of the finest backcountry lodge operators in Alaska; La Baleine Cafe is part of the Dixon family’s Within the Wild Adventure Company. The name “La Baleine Cafe” is a nod to both Mandy’s French culinary training and the whales that frequent the Kachemak Bay. Homer—known as the “Cosmic Hamlet by the Sea”—tells a story of subsistence through community stewardship, and La Baleine Cafe exemplifies these Alaskan principles in every way. From providing bags and gloves for beach cleanups (and offering free cookies and coffee to those who participate), to attending the birthdays, funerals, and fishing trips of their customers-turned-friends, La Baleine Cafe has cemented itself as a linchpin of the community.
