Airports are known for being everyone’s least favorite part of the travel process, so when one doesn’t cause countless headaches, it deserves a gold star. Today, John Wayne Airport (SNA) in Orange County, California has been officially recognized as one of the best large airports in North America, according to the latest J.D. Power North America Airport Satisfaction Study. This accolade comes as no surprise to someone who flies in and out of SoCal regularly; SNA has long been one of my favorite airports to fly out of, especially when you consider the chaotic experience of LAX, which seems to be constantly under construction and crushed with traffic. And don’t even get me started on the LAXIT ride-share fiasco.

Nestled in the heart of Orange County, SNA stands out for its user-friendly layout and stunning views. The moment you land, you’re greeted by palm trees and the promise of sun-soaked beaches just minutes away. Its compact design means you’re just a short walk from your gate to baggage claim, making it easy to grab your bags and hit the road.

Other airports listed in the West include Sacramento International Airport (No. 7), San Jose International Airport (No. 10), Oakland International Airport (No. 19), and San Diego International Airport (No. 21).

This J.D. Power recognition highlights SNA’s commitment to excellence, from its efficient security procedures to the overall customer service that travelers rave about. With an array of local dining options—think gourmet coffee and fresh California cuisine—you can indulge in a taste of the region even before stepping outside. The emphasis on art and culture throughout the terminal adds a unique charm, making the wait for your flight feel like part of the adventure.

So, if you’re looking for a stress-free travel experience, it may be worth flying in or out of John Wayne Airport, even if it’s a little further to your final destination.
