Every 130 years or so, even the prettiest market can use a little facelift. So it is with Oakville Grocery, which opened in 1881 as a farmers’ store, then re-debuted in spring 2012 after a five-month renovation. Owner Leslie Rudd has gussied up the place with an espresso and ice cream pick-up window, and kept the locally produced goodies like chocolates, honey, jams, and a rainbow of produce from the market’s own farmer, Omar Morgan. But our tummy truly rumbles for the updated cafe fare, like the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich with ginger butter pickles.
