Disney’s Out-of-This-World Plans for Its Star Wars-Themed Park
New details have emerged about next year’s grand opening of the Galaxy’s Edge
Since the first announcement in 2015, information has been brought to light bit by bit about the highly anticipated Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge lands, which are set to open in 2019 in both Anaheim-based Disneyland and Orlando’s Hollywood Studios. The parks’ fantasy-makers are playing coy about many details, but we know the parks are going to be big—at 14 planned acres, it’s the largest single-themed expansion Disney’s done yet.
Insiders and execs, like Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek, have also begun to share insight about the attractions themselves, to the delight of Star Wars fans. The parkswill transform into Batuu, the smuggler-ridden port on the Galaxy’s Edge, where visitors can experience two thrilling spaceship adventures. From the cockpit of The Millennium Falcon, they’ll have the chance to pilot a dangerous mission, and aboard a sleek Star Destroyer vessel, they’ll be trapped amidst a battle between the First Order and the Resistance. Guests can also relax after facing down galactic danger with a glass of Luke Skywalker’s famed blue milk—the only yet-announced menu item—on a visit to the cantina, where they might spot some other familiar creatures.
