The new cannabis consumer isn’t zoned out on their couch eating pizza—they’re serious about holistic health. As cannabis takes the wellness world by storm, you’re more likely than ever to see it in fancy day spas and natural-foods stores. Nevertheless, many people are still asking questions. To break it down, the cannabis plant has two well-known cannabinoids that occur in it naturally, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). THC is the psychoactive component of cannabis, while its more widely available cousin, CBD, has no mind-altering effects. Users will not get the “high” effect if they consume CBD. Studies have shown both treat or alleviate an array of ailments such as inflammation, pain, anxiety, insomnia, depression, and PTSD, to name a few. Here are some body lotions and other products we love.
Vertly Hemp CBD Infused Relief Lotion
Possibly the most effective CBD body lotion for pain relief we tried, this topical also has the distinguishing characteristic of absorbing very well into skin and not leaving a greasy deposit on your hands and area of application. Combining the anti-inflammatory properties of hemp with the natural pain relief of arnica, muscle recovery boost of magnesium, skin hydration from aloe, and a wonderful lavender-citrus scent, it’s no wonder this lotion made such a great impression.
Dr. Kerklaan Natural CBD Relief Cream
This CBD-infused body lotion took away lower back and neck pain rather quickly and is decidedly less greasy than other products on the market. However, if you don’t want to get your hands at all messy (we won’t judge), Dr. Kerklaan offers the same relief in spray form ($40). Now that’s good thinking.
Lord Jones High CBD Formula Body Lotion
This effective CBD-infused topical works by cooling the affected area and before we knew it, our minor aches and pains had melted away. We particularly enjoyed the fragrance, which didn’t fall back on the typical eucalyptus-scented CBD body lotion; instead, sage, citrus, and mint commingle for a herbaceous yet slightly sweet vibe.
Papa & Barkley Releaf Balm
This CBD-infused salve effectively addresses pain points through a one-two punch of warming and then cooling sensations, the latter courtesy of healing peppermint, tea tree, and eucalyptus extracts. One drawback is that the balm has a greasy consistency that tends to not absorb as well as other topicals we’ve tried. The minty eucalyptus scent, while pleasant, is rather powerful—so be prepared. The balm is available in two sizes; we’re partial to the smaller, lip balm-size container, perfect for relief on the go.
La Mend The Good Patch
Don’t want to apply a lotion or salve? These no-mess, hemp extract-infused dermal patches offer up a variety of relief options, from menstrual to hangover relief. Stick one onto the recommended area and it’ll remain in place for 12 to 24 hours (one of our tester’s withstood a full night’s sleep, tossing and turning included; another’s withstood a workout and subsequent shower). We especially like the Be Calm offering, which combines the destressing effects of hemp with the cooling effect of menthol to tame minor aches and pains—resulting in a more restful evening.
