The Great Wheel, a 16-story Ferris wheel with 42 fully enclosed gondolas, opened in June 2012 as the newest addition to the city skyline on what was a mostly empty stretch of Pier 57. At the top of the revolution, you get a panoramic view of Mt. Rainier, the Olympics, and all of downtown, then as you descend, thrilling views of the water below.
