Airstream and REI Co-op have introduced what could quite possibly be the coolest collaboration of the summer. The new Special Edition Basecamp 20X is truly a turnkey trailer for adventure lovers. Made from sustainably sourced and recycled materials, it offers off-grid features and clever design details like birch cabinetry and spruce green accents that call on the brand’s outdoorsy ethos. Plus it comes with a 25-piece REI Co-Op kit with all the gear you’d need to round out your adventure.

This being the second iteration of the collab, the brands have fine-tuned what travelers are after. The Basecamp comes in two designs—a 20-foot model and an introductory 16-foot floor plan. The 20-foot model includes new features like a convertible front dinette that creates a comfortable living space for shared meals, sleeping, and entertaining, as well as larger holding tanks that allow for longer trips. It also offers one of users’ most-loved features of the Basecamp line, the rear hatch door which creates an ease of access to cargo and epic views.

In a move towards sustainability, the Basecamp uses fabrics and laminates made from post-consumer recycled materials throughout the design, including a cutting-board sink cover made from recycled paper, and cabinetry crafted from lightweight and sustainably grown wood.

The Basecamp 20X comes standard with a recirculating water heater for on-demand hot water without waste and a UV-led water purification system. Additional upgrades include a 360-watt solar package equipped with a 200Ah lithium battery bank, and a water-saving composting toilet.

Of course, it wouldn’t be an REI partnership without some outdoor gearhead features. The L-track storage system ensures secure storage for bikes, kayaks, fishing poles, and skis. There’s also a built-in floor cooler with a drain for beverages or as added wet storage, and a dedicated gear locker.

The base weight of the Basecamp 20X comes in at 3,500 pounds, meaning it can be towed by most city-dwellers’ SUVs. REI-Co-op Special Edition Basecamp models can be purchased through authorized Airstream dealerships, with pricing for the new 20-foot model starting at $62,400. Time to start saving!
